Meet the Maker

My name is Jaclyn Humphries. I am a humble individual who was born and raised on Newfoundlands East Coast. I have always had a passion for the handmade, with my father teaching me construction and my mother who taught me to sew and express my creativity – I believe that a talent for creating is “kind of just in me”. Inspired by forms found in nature and everyday life, with many of those inspirations stemming from my home province, I am creating my way as a contemporary jewellery craftsperson, who focusing on silversmithing and textile techniques.

To follow my passion, I attended the College of the North Atlantic, graduating with a Diploma in Textile Studies. Following graduation, I enrolled at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, graduating with a BFA Interdisciplinary, focusing on jewellery design and metalsmithing. Several years later I returned to CNA gaining a Diploma in Office Administration: Records and Information Management.

Together with designing and creating my one-of-a-kind works at my studio on the Southern Shore of Newfoundland and Labrador, I am a member of the next generation of makers. I have always had a desire to be a part of keeping traditions alive in our province. For over a decade I have been involved in volunteering and participating in art and craft not-for-profit organizations, giving me a greater understanding and passion for the arts and craft community. I am willing to go above and beyond to get things done and am dedicated to continually learning and positively contributing to the arts and craft community.

Tors Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador is now where my little family and I are planting our roots. Building our home so we can avail of beautiful home grown food and have a ton of fun while doing it. This is where I have my silversmithing and textile studio, nestled on the hillside of our rugged coastline. Here we aim to live a peaceful lifestyle, enjoying life’s simple pleasures and sharing kindness with others.

I can’t wait to show you more!

Below are a few pictures of me with our chickens here in Tors Cove.  Not only do these hens provide beautiful eggs for us. They also bring me absolute joy with their silly chicken personalities.
